Curriculum Intent

At the Suthers School, our curriculum is designed to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit within our Year 10 and Year 11 students through our Enterprise and Marketing program. Our Enterprise and Marketing curriculum aims to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit within our students by offering a comprehensive exploration of key concepts essential for running a successful small start-up business. We believe that every student possesses unique potential, and this program is designed to help them discover and nurture their talents. By learning about the characteristics, risks, and rewards of enterprise, our students gain valuable insights into the world of business and entrepreneurship.

Our curriculum is structured around three key components:

RO67 Exam (40% of Overall Grade):

In this knowledge-oriented segment, students delve into the fundamental aspects of business and marketing. They explore topics such as entrepreneurs, risk and reward, market research, market segmentation, finance (including costs, revenue, profit, and breakeven), the marketing mix (price, product, place, and promotion), and factors crucial in starting a business. This rigorous examination forms the cornerstone of their theoretical understanding.

RO68 Design a Business Proposal Coursework (30% of Overall Grade):

This practical segment challenges students to apply their knowledge. Through market research, customer profiling, product design, financial planning, and risk analysis, they craft a comprehensive business proposal. By designing products like hats, bags, and ice creams, students gain hands-on experience in creating viable business ideas based on real market demands.

RO69 Pitch a Business Proposal Coursework (30% of Overall Grade):

In this culminating component, students refine their entrepreneurial ideas further. They create branding and promotional plans, demonstrating their ability to translate theoretical concepts into actionable strategies. Through a "Dragons Den style pitch," they present their ideas, honing their oracy, presentation, and persuasive skills.

Our curriculum bridges the gap between theory and practice. Through immersive experiences in market research, product design, financial planning, and persuasive pitching, students gain invaluable insights into the practical applications of their knowledge. These real-world encounters foster a sense of personal ambition and social responsibility, preparing students for the challenges of the entrepreneurial world.

We emphasize character traits such as resilience, creativity, and critical thinking. By tackling challenges in product design, financial analysis, and pitch presentations, students develop not only as entrepreneurs but also as individuals capable of making well-informed decisions and reflecting on their work.

By the time our students leave in Year 11, our curriculum equips them with comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and a resilient mindset, making them not only academically proficient but also confident entrepreneurs with a strong sense of social responsibility. Through our tailored approach, students are prepared to succeed in the competitive landscape while promoting ethical business practices and cultural understanding.
