Welcome to Drama

Welcome to the Drama Department. The ethos of the department is centered around learning Drama in a practical way where students support and encourage each other to achieve their best. The focus in drama is to expose students to a varied and cultured curriculum that excites and challenges each student. Topics enable students to perform in different styles, experimenting with creating character and original performance work. They will watch live theatre to analyse and evaluate the design aspects and apply what they learn to their performance work. Lastly, students are encouraged to consider how the use of voice and physical communication can be applied and used outside of the Drama lesson. Drama is designed to encourage confident and articulate young people.

We aim to deliver a broad experience of Drama to develop skills in three key areas:

  • Devising Drama
  • Performing Drama from a text
  • Analysis and evaluation

At KS4, students follow the AQA GCSE exam qualification where it is divided into 3 units:

- A written exam where they study Blood Brothers and analyse a Live Theatre performance they have seen.

- A devised performance with coursework to accompany the practical work.

- A scripted performance that a visiting examiner marks.
