Descriptive Writing
Aim: to build on SPAG skills learnt at KS2 and develop vocabulary and detailed description.
Assessment: You are going to enter a creative writing competition. Your entry will be judged by a panel of people of your own age. Write a description suggested by this picture.
Contemporary novel
My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher
Aim: to develop selection and retrieval skills, language analysis and begin developing evaluation skills.
January assessment: Language paper 1 (retrieval and language analysis) and descriptive/narrative writing
Aim: An introduction to the study of poetry. Students will study a short anthology of no more than 6 poems, in order to develop their language analysis skills, and understanding of how structure and form shape meaning.
Assessment: analysis of language and structure of a single studied poem.
Crime and Mystery
Aim: The Crime and Mystery themed unit will introduce students to a range of Literature extracts from 19th century novels to modern texts.
Stories of Survival
Assessment: Write the opening to a short story.

Aim: Develop the skills needed for language paper 2. Build on language analysis.
June assessment: Language Paper 2 Section A and B (Non fiction reading and writing)
GCSE Spoken Language/Introduction to Shakespeare
Aim: Students are introduced to a range of extracts and characters. Language analysis, inference and deduction skills, and selection and retrieval skills are developed through drama activities and written responses.
Assessment: Spoken Language – speeches related to Shakespeare.
