Aim: to use a variety of extracts from dystopian novels to develop writing skills: vocabulary, sentence structures, SPAG.
Assessment: Write the opening to a dystopian story.

Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet
Aim: ​an introduction to the play and develop analysis skills

Travel and Journeys
Aim: To develop analysis skills including comparison
Assessment: Language Paper 2
Aim: To study a selection of poems to develop analysis skills.
Assessment: ​Compare how the poet presents feelings in two poems.

Year 7

Unit Content and assessment
Descriptive Writing Aim: to build on SPAG skills learnt at KS2 and develop vocabulary and detailed description.
Assessment: You are going to enter a creative writing competition. Your entry will be judged by a panel of people of your own age. Write a description suggested by this picture.
Contemporary novel
My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher
Aim: to develop selection and retrieval skills, language analysis and begin developing evaluation skills.
Assessment: Language paper 1 (retrieval and language analysis)
Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night's Dream Aim: ​an introduction to William Shakespeare and to develop language analysis skills
Literature Assessment: ​How does Shakespeare present the relationship between two characters in this extract?
Poetry Aim: An introduction to the study of poetry. Students will study a short anthology of no more than 6 poems, in order to develop their language analysis skills, and understanding of how structure and form shape meaning.
Assessment: analysis of language and structure of a single studied poem.
Stories of Survival Aim: Develop the skills needed for language Paper 2. Build on language analysis.

Media Aim: An Introduction to Media Studies
Assessment: Spoken Language – news report.
