We know that young people need both a strong academic foundation and well-developed character strengths to succeed in education and the world beyond. That’s why we are committed to delivering an extensive enrichment programme—and through our extended school day we are able to guarantee participation for all, no matter wat their starting point.
Our extended curriculum provides all pupils with guaranteed access to an exciting range of activities; from Chinese language lessons and computer programming to creative arts, sport, leadership, public speaking, debating and human rights, pupils at The Suthers School benefit from a truly enriching curriculum.
Six Pillars of Personal Development
We believe that there are six essential pillars of effective personal development. Our Personal Development Days and our unique Period 7 enrichment programme are designed to foster and develop essential character strengths by guaranteeing every pupil access to opportunities founded upon the following six ‘pillars’:
- Intellectual Challenge
- Social Action
- Life Skills
It is important to us that each pupil has the freedom to develop his or her interests and skills through the highest quality provision and that this should be provided without additional cost. Our extensive programme has been carefully planned to provide a variety of opportunities throughout the school year, some of which will lead to nationally recognised qualifications such as LAMDA, the Young Lifeguarding Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Our enrichment programme is another of the many ways in which we help students foster the character strengths that are essential for their own success and well-being - and another way in which we empower them to express their voice to improve the world around them.
In addition to our Leadership Academy, we take pride in developing the leadership potential of our pupils. There is no doubt that as a brand new school, The Suthers School provides a unique environment for the development of student voice. Student leadership opportunities currently include:
- Head Boy and Head Girl
- Student Council
