The Suthers Hockey Tournament

Suthers travelled to West Bridgford School for the Year 7 boys and girls, 7-a-side Hockey tournament.

Both teams were excited, but also apprehensive as this was the first time some have been involved in competitive matches.

Year 7 Boys opened with a 1-0 win against West Brigford school with a goal by Arlen. They then went onto lose against Toot Hill School 3-0. Playing both teams again for a second round, the boys found their speed and tenacity to play as a team and went onto to win 3-0 against West Brigford with Ollie Picker scoring a brace and also a second goal of the tournament for Arlen. Again, another lose to Toot Hill, this time by a single goal, this demonstrated a better defensive performance against a strong Toot Hill side who fielded older players to make up their squad numbers for the tournament,

Year 7 Girls experienced a similar disadvantage, having to play against older students from Toot Hill and National. Their closet chance to a win was against West Bridgford where the girls lost 1-0. A stand out performance from the team, who showed true grit and determination on the pitch. Kiara was praised for her goal keeping skills, in full hockey keeper attire. Something she has never done before, she kept the score line to within one goal.

In conclusion, a successful first tournament for the Year 7s, with a repeat tournament to be hosted at Toot Hill school in the new year. The students will hopefully have the opportunity to build on their knowledge of the sport and new found skills to offer further competition to their competitors.
